Professor Michael Ungar, Ph.D.
“The work being done by PCRT helping young women access feminine hygiene products is ensuring these young women’s resilience and creating opportunities for them to thrive. Helping young women solve such a basic need opens pathways to education and future empowerment. It is wonderful to be able to support such an important initiative.”

“I was able to support Angela's project during the 2018/2019 period. I was inspired by her drive to help young girls in rural school in Kagera region. This motivated me to help and support by giving donations to purchase and provide free reusable sanitary products to the girls in need. Additionally, I would encourage everyone to please kindly give your support to PROTECT CHILDREN'S RIGHTS TRUST (PCRT).”

"In November 2017 when we visited our friend Angela Ifunya in Tanzania. During our visit we were involved in brainstorming the idea of starting the project to provide free usable sanitary pads to poor rural secondary school girls in Misenyi and Bukoba rural districts, Kagera region, Tanzania.
We are glad that our inputs in the project development enabled PCRT to start an important work of supporting young school females to improve their personal hygiene and menstruation management, increase attendance and retention of girls in schools.
In the implementation of the project we have been able to donate the money and materials e,g. a brand new sewing machine. As it is an ongoing project we will keep giving our donations to assist girls to stay in school without any barriers."

"In 2018 the pilot project, PCRT provided 100 packages of free reusable sanitary pads to 100 our school girls. Again in 2019 during full project implementation PCRT provided 100 packages of sanitary pads to 100 girls. Before this project the situation was too bad as sometimes most of girls specifically 9 girls were not coming to school at all until when the period cut off. Now girls who absent themselves in classes during periods are staying all month long in school."

“I am glad I have been part of donors who supports the good work of PCRT to purchase and provide free reusable sanitary pads to secondary school girls in rural areas namely Misenyi and Bukoba rural districts. As the first born son to Angela and the father of four young girls, I am very much interested in seeing more rural girls have access and staying in school and be able to complete their education. At the end, we will have more educated and healthy mothers in rural areas in Tanzania.”

“During pilot project in 2018, PCRT provided free reusable sanitary 103 packages to 103 girls. In 2019, PCRT provided 120 packages of sanitary pads to 120 girls. I appreciate the interventions because by starting using reusable sanitary pads, girls' attendance to school improves from 92% a year 2018 to 98% by 2020. It also raised academic performance of girls from 79% a year 2018 to 95% by 2020 on National Examinations. However, girls drop out is reduced from 5% a year 2018 to 2% by 2020. Thus, these girls are likely to complete their high schooling. As a result, teen pregnancies and early marriages will decrease.”

"When Angela was studying her master degree in United Kingdom, she stayed with us in Merthyr Vale village and working part –time as evaluation officer with Merthyr Vale and Community youth Project Initiative. After completing her studies she went back to her home country Tanzania and continue working with children and youth. Now we are more impressed with the work she is doing with her organization to empowering rural school girls through providing them with sanitary towels as way of making them stay in school. We have been giving our donations for this project since it started in 2018 and we will continue giving our support.”
